The were forced to switch from growing cotton to producing food to feed their people. They thought that because the Europeans bought most of their cotton, that they would support them. Unfortunlely, they were wrong.
In conclusion, the North had many oblivious advantages over the South. These advantages helped the North win the war. There were many factors that led the North to victory, but the population, asset and agriculture advantages were the most significant.
