Millard Fillmore was the president of the United States between 1850-1853. Born in the Finger Lakes county of New York in 1800, Fillmore as a youth endured the hardships frontier life and was a hard worker. I think It was a good idea to try and start trade gain with Japan because they were a major power in the western hemisphere. They made goods that we could not get from any were else in the world and we could get goods for cheaper. For the economy it was a very good decision.
