On December 16, 1773 a mob of angry Colonists, led by the charismatic patriot Samuel Adams, protested the newly passed tax on tea imports. The colonists disguised themselves as Native Americans and stealthily boarded the British merchant ships that were carrying the latest shipment of tea. After boarding these ships, the Colonists dumped nearly four hundred crates of tea overboard into Boston Harbor. This famous act of defiance became known as the Boston Tea Party. Colonists throughout all of the colonies had had enough with British rule, and started conventions, such as the Continental Congress, that would eventually play a big role in the fight for their freedom.
