There were absolutely no positive experiences in being captured for the slaves, as they were taken away some times quite brutally from their family, friends, and way of life. Africans were captured from within their own villages, often the kidnappers would wait until the adults in the village had gone out hunting before coming in to the villages and stealing children from within their own homes. Religion and culture were two very positive things in a slave's otherwise negative life. Religion was something many slaves believed in deeply although it varied through the Negro population with some still practicing the religion, which they had practiced back in Africa, while others became Catholics. Through religion slaves were given hope for a brighter future and their culture was something, which they could pass on to their children.
