For one to understand how the traditional potlatch acted to regulate and structure First Nations Societies one must be given some insight into the traditions and beliefs of First Nations people. Despite the sixty-six year ban many Aboriginal communities have managed to revive this important practice. Although potlatches are not as near as traditional as they were in the past, the traditions still play a significant role in the regulation and structure of Aboriginal societies. We have adapted the ceremonies and have grown from them; potlatching is still an important part of our lives as Heiltsuk people.
