The Globe Theatre was an early English theatre in London where most of William Shakespeare's plays were first presented. It was built in 1599 by two brothers, Richard and Cuthbert Burbage, who owned its predecessor, The Theatre. In the winter of 1598, the lease on The Theatre was due to expire because of an increase in rent. The first performance in the New Globe was given on June 14, 1996, the late Sam Wanamaker's birthday. Many people are optimistic about the future of the Globe , hoping it will allow people to "reclaim" Shakespeare. The New Globe hopefully will be a great success. It will be very educational, showing people what theater was like back in Shakespeare's time.
