If a woman would have written this screenplay, it might have projected a more strengthened character in Deanie, but coming from a man, her character seems typical of the way men though even in the 60s. Overall, the film is enjoyable - a classic love story - but when a deeper look is taken, one will find many flaws in the delineation of women, objectified and subordinate, is clouded.
