This poem is about a soldier from England that was stationed in Mandalay. It was during the rein of Queen Victoria. This soldier fell in love with Burma and a native girl. The wording is powerful. The way he talks about this gorgeous place, its like he doesn't just think its pretty and peaceful. He also admires the place and the people. For him, it's the opposite of London. The opposite of what he grew up on.
