McCarthyism
McCarthyism gets its name from United States Senator Joseph R.
McCarthy, a Republican of Wisconsin. He became front-page news in 1950,
when he publicly charged that more than two hundred secret Communists had
infiltrated the Department of State. While conducting a militant anti-Communist campaign, communist advances in Eastern Europe and China,Senator McCarthy pursued an investigation of communist subversion in all walks of life. His usually baseless accusations ruined the careers of many distinguished citizens.

censure McCarthy. On December 2, 1954, Senator
Joseph R. McCarthy was condemned in a vote of a special session of the
U.S. Senate for his conduct in Senate committees. He died two and a half
years later on May 2, 1957, at age forty eight. Similar to Reverend Parris' actions against the town for his own profit. He was voted out of office as the Reverend of Salem and banished from ever returning to the town of Salem.
