Therefore William was a very important figure who was fundamental to the revolt's success as he managed to make sure that it survived in a significant and tangible form from 1572-6. He made additional impact in later years on the direction and outcome of the revolt, ensuring it ended as successfully as it did, but his most important contribution was ensuring the revolt's survival in the aforementioned years.
