One possible reason as to why these Feudal governments were different could be due to the different religions in each place. Western Europe was predominantly Christian, while the Japanese were mainly Buddhist. Most differences between the two, however, was quite small considering each developed a Feudal system simultaneously with the other halfway across the globe.
