With our population as large as it is, it would be nearly impossible to have every person vote on every issue. Instead, we have a Representative Democracy, or a Democratic Republic, whichever way you would like to look at it. We, the people, elect representatives to make the laws and govern the country. Which has worked now for over two hundred years.
