more open to, and accepting of, diverse cultures. The Canadian experience has shown that multiculturalism encourages racial and ethnic harmony and cross-cultural understanding, and discourages ghettoization, hatred, discrimination and violence. As being an immigrant in Canada, I understand that many immigrants keep a hold of few ties to their homeland, be it languages, special food they eat or the celebration of their festivals. But Canada is their home; it has become all they hoped for.
