Arthur Robert Ashe, Jr.
Arthur Robert Ashe, Jr. was born on July 10, 1943 in Richmond, VA. He was the eldest child born. After him cam his brother John. Their parents Arthur Sr. and Mattie Ashe raised Arthur and John. Arthur Sr. worked as a police officer for the Richmond Recreation Department. Arthur's mother was a frail housewife that spent most of her time with him. Arthur would love to read and listen to music all day.

In the last year of his life, Arthur founded the Arthur Ashe Foundation for the defeat of AIDS. In December of 1992, Arthur gave a speech at the United Nations on World AIDS Day. It was about how you should fight AIDS rather than mourn it. A couple of weeks later he became ill with pneumonia and was taking medication. All hope was lost. Arthur Robert Ashe, Jr. died in New York City on February 6, 1993.
