Since the beginning of time, epic tales have passed on from generation to generation as a form of communication and entertainment. Even though each epic is different in plot, every epic has certain features in common. The prime example of their similarities is the hero of epic. A hero is someone who is wise, courageous, and strong, has perseverance, has charisma, and can adapt or conform in any given situation. One is not more of a hero than the next. Though they use different qualities for the necessary situation, the qualities are used regardless and should not be discounted. Odysseus is what you would call a true epic hero, while Oedipus is a tragic hero; nonetheless they are both heroes.
